5 Things That Indicate You Need a New Kitchen

by | Aug 24, 2018 | Latest News, Tips

A new kitchen is a long-term investment, and it needs to be thought about carefully. But sometimes your old kitchen simply doesn’t work for you anymore. When this happens, it’s time for a renovation.
Here are five of the most common problems people tell us about when we’re designing new kitchens in Liverpool – if any of these apply to you, it’s a perfect excuse for a remodel!

1. Inefficient layout

Your kitchen layout needs to flow efficiently if your kitchen is going to work well for you. Most modern kitchens are based on the concept of the “kitchen work triangle”, which means that the path between the sink, cooker and fridge should always be clear. This makes cooking and food preparation as easy as possible.

If the path between these three key elements of your kitchen is blocked, or if you often bump into other kitchen users while preparing food, it’s time to rethink your layout.

2. Not enough kitchen worktop space

Do you struggle to find enough food preparation space in your kitchen? As you know, timing is everything with cooking, and if your kitchen worktops aren’t large enough, your entire meal can be thrown off because you haven’t been able to prepare each element at the right time.

A professional kitchen designer will find clever solutions to increase the worktop space in your kitchen, so it’s well worth booking a consultation if your kitchen worktops no longer serve their purpose.

3. Cramped cabinets

Every kitchen needs sufficient storage space, but many kitchens don’t have it. Lack of storage is one of the main reasons people decide to renovate their kitchens, and it’s easy to see why.

Cramped cabinets cause all kinds of problems. For a start, if your cabinets are over-filled with food or crockery, the doors won’t shut properly, which looks unsightly. You may even have resorted to using the kitchen worktops as a storage solution for some of your cooking utensils or appliances, when you don’t really want them on show.

Over-filling your cabinets can also be dangerous. If the weight becomes too much, your cabinets can bow or even detach from the wall, which is a major safety hazard.
Modern custom kitchens come with a wide variety of clever storage solutions – so if you’re struggling for cabinet space, this is another sign you should think about an upgrade.

4. Energy-guzzling appliances

If you’ve had your appliances for a long time, they’re probably not very energy efficient. These days we’re all more concerned about the amounts of energy we use, as we know more about how it harms the environment. It’s also extremely costly over time.

New appliances use a lot less energy, and they’re much more technologically advanced, making life in the kitchen easier for everybody. If your appliances have seen better days, this is a great excuse for a new kitchen. You’ll be doing your bit for the planet, increasing the value of your home, and saving plenty of money on your household bills, too!

5. Outdated décor

You may have loved your kitchen when it was first installed, but how long ago was that? Styles change, and we naturally get tired of looking at the same décor scheme, year in, year out.

If you’re fed up with your farmhouse-style cabinets and want a brand new look, or your tiles are stuck in the 80s, your kitchen definitely needs a makeover to bring it into the 21st century! You’ll fall in love with your kitchen all over again, and spending time there will be the pleasure it’s meant to be.
