Why the Kitchen Matters More Than Ever in HMO Developments

by | May 11, 2026 | Design Concepts, Latest News

In an HMO property, the kitchen is more than just a shared space — it’s often the room that shapes a tenant’s first impression of the entire property.

A tired, poorly designed kitchen can make even well-presented bedrooms feel less appealing. On the other hand, a stylish, durable, and functional kitchen can help attract better tenants, encourage longer stays, and reduce maintenance issues over time.

At HB Kitchens, we’ve recently completed two HMO kitchen projects that show how the right materials, colours, and layout choices can make shared spaces feel more considered, more durable, and more attractive to tenants.

L4 HMO Project – Windsor Road

For L4 Property Developments, we recently completed a stylish and durable shared kitchen, utility, and communal area on Windsor Road.

Made using our in-house affordable door range, the client chose Reed Green doors complemented by Platinum Vintage Oak interiors. This combination creates a clean, modern finish while still being practical enough for a high-use shared living environment.

Our affordable range is not only durable, but available in a wide choice of colours, giving landlords and developers the flexibility to create spaces that look fresh without losing sight of long-term value.

Patrick’s Kitchen – Contemporary HMO Finish

Another recently completed HMO project, Patrick’s Kitchen, shows a slightly different approach with a clean, fresh, and contemporary finish throughout.
For the main shared kitchen, the client selected Remo Matt Regiment Green doors, creating a bold but refined look that works beautifully in a communal space.

For the kitchenettes, the choice of Arlo handleless doors in Taupe Grey adds a sleek, modern feel while keeping the design simple, practical, and easy to maintain.

Why HMO Kitchens Are a Smart Investment

A high-quality HMO kitchen isn’t simply a “nice extra” — it’s an investment that can positively influence the performance of the entire property.

Well-designed kitchens can help deliver:

  • Faster lets
  • Better tenant appeal
  • Longer tenancies
  • Reduced maintenance costs
  • Higher rental appeal
  • Improved long-term property value

In many HMOs, the kitchen becomes the social hub of the property. When tenants feel the home has been properly cared for, they’re often more likely to respect and maintain the space themselves.

Built for Long-Term Value

At HB Kitchens, we understand the balance landlords and developers need to strike between cost, durability, style, and longevity.

That’s why we continue to design and build kitchens that not only look great on installation day, but continue performing well for years to come.

Because in HMOs, investing smart often starts in the kitchen.
